FCDS completed the mechanical and Sustainable design services for Baldivis South Secondary School at the end of 2016. The school is a significant change from the standard Secondary School Planning Guide, with most spaces provided with direct Expansion air conditioning systems, in lieu of evaporative cooling units. Units are provided with centralised automatic controls to limit energy consumption and maintain indoor conditions comfortable for working. The design also includes dedicated outside air supplies to ensure carbon dioxide concentrations are kept at low levels all year round.
The project has a mechanical budget of slightly over $3M, comparable with other, evaporatively cooled high school buildings and includes mezzanine plant enclosures to address maintenance access and bushfire risk.
Full Circle also completed energy modelling for the school and, as the construction is completed, will undertake tuning and energy management services, using the central VRV controllers to provide analysis for each block within the school.
