The Faulkner Civic Precinct Community Centre is a transformative civic project by the City of Belmont, designed to serve as a multi-purpose, cross-generational hub. The centre brings together a library and digital hub, museum, senior citizens centre, not-for-profit service offices, café, and crèche, fostering community engagement and service accessibility.

FCDS was engaged to provide comprehensive ESD consulting and Green Star assessment services. Through our involvement, the project achieved both 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built certifications, reflecting world leadership in sustainable design and construction. Our contributions included sustainability strategy development, materials selection guidance, and performance modelling to ensure optimal environmental outcomes.

Full Circle is honoured to assist with the ongoing sustainable design initiatives to be undertaken by the DBCA (Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attraction). The improvements are set to make the park more accessible to a broader range of visitors and allow more people to enjoy the natural beauty. The planned upgrades include a new Park Hub with a café and interpretation space, sustainably included improvements to existing picnic areas, gardens, carparking and new improved walking and new off-road cycling trails. The DBCA is delivering this project and has engaged with park users, key stakeholders and Aboriginal traditional owners over several years and will continue to do so over various stages in the near future to aim at delivering a national heritage wildlife conservation park.

The Zoo café and function centre are the first stages in the realisation of Perth Zoo’s masterplan 2040 to enable this world class tourist destination to continue to meet visitor and market expectations through the provision of such enhanced amenities and facilities. The design of both the function centre and the café embodies the zoo’s landscape and vernacular. Naturally ventilated open spaces with provision for conditioned air, strategic waste streams, dedicated sustainable initiatives and ample mechanical provisions for the commercial areas and the staff areas will render this facility a benchmark in commercial spaces and will enhance visitor experience.

The sustainable design strategy for Gnarabup resort was formed in coalition with Westin Marriott’s’ commitment to global sustainability leadership, explained further in their Source 360 documentation. The intent is proposed keeping in mind local and international best practise benchmarking systems such as NABERS and Greenstar. The intent to Conserve, Protect, Restore, and Engage has been realised through the inclusion of several design parameters such as Greenhouse gas management, exemplar passive solar design, environmental footprint minimalization, restoration and revegetation of previous bushfire affected areas and the like.

The City of Stirling’s Scarborough Beach Pool is the first aquatic centre in WA to be awarded a 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built V1.1. As quoted by the City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin, “The project was not given a sustainability target to meet to begin with, so initially we targeted it at a 5-star certification – Australian Excellence – level. However, after a design review with Full Circle, the City made the decision to target the project at a level which demonstrates international leadership in its sustainable design.”

The finished project has a projected carbon footprint of less than 40% of a typical aquatic centre, thanks to its innovative sustainable design features. The pool uses rainwater for pool top up and filter cleaning, has a geothermal bore to heat the pool year-round, and uses water from the pool to keep the facility and surrounding offices cool via the air conditioning system in summer. EV chargers have also been installed in the upper south car park near the pool and is available for everyone to use. These features are expected to significantly reduce operational costs and save more than 3,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions each year , which is enough to offset the emissions of driving around the world 400 times.
